A hiker pings a rough location, a ranger station has to reach them, and a rescue helicopter needs a regroup point — every one of those calls comes down to distance, midpoint, and slope on a coordinate grid. A hiker's last GPS ping puts them at 8 miles east, 6 miles north of Ranger HQ. The station has one grid, three points, and three questions to answer before a truck can leave the lot. How far is the straight-line rescue distance? Drag the hiker's camp east or west. Ranger HQ sits at the origin — watch the rescue line stretch and the distance formula compute the straight-line miles live. Where do you drop the halfway resupply cache? Drag the marker along the route from HQ to camp. Halfway there (the midpoint) is exactly where dispatch wants to stage a resupply drop — read the coordinates off the midpoint formula. Which direction does the helicopter fly from camp? Leg one (HQ to camp) is locked in. Drag the compass dial to aim leg two (camp to the lookout tower, 10 miles out) — and watch what the slopes reveal when the two legs line up just right. Every dispatcher's grid runs on the same three tools: the distance formula tells you how far, the midpoint formula tells you where to meet in the middle, and slope tells you which direction to point next — and when two directions cross at a right angle, the slopes multiply to exactly −1.
