Format and Pacing: How Much Time Per Question Start with the basic shape of each test. These are the current (post-redesign) formats: ACT's rate — a bit over a minute per question SAT's rate — noticeably more breathing room per question Watch both testtakers race through their own exam below, in real proportional time. The ACT bar empties in 50 minutes; the SAT bar keeps going another 20 minutes past that. 2. Formula Sheet: Memorize It, or Look It Up This is the sharpest contrast between the two tests, and it changes how you should study. Nothing is provided. Every formula — area, volume, the quadratic formula, trig identities, distance and midpoint — has to already be in your head before you sit down. A short reference panel (common area/volume formulas, angle facts) is available on-screen the whole time. It doesn't cover everything, but it removes some of the memorization burden. 3. Difficulty Progression: One Ramp vs a Fork in the Road Both tests get harder as you go, but the shape of that difficulty curve is genuinely different — and it changes your pacing strategy. Watch the difficulty curve build for each test below: the ACT traces one smooth ramp start to finish, while the SAT's line forks partway through into a harder or easier second half. 4.
