The Coordinate Plane on the ACT Lines, slope, distance, midpoint, circles, and transformations — the most learnable, most predictable unit on the whole test. Coordinate geometry is the bridge between algebra and shapes It shows up throughout the ACT Math Test in three forms: directly in coordinate-plane questions, tucked inside algebra problems, and hiding in word problems about distances and locations. Roughly 8–12% of the test touches it directly — and once you can see the plane clearly, a lot of other question types get easier too. Watch a line get built from two points, (2,3) and (5,9) : the rise and run climb together, and the slope settles at exactly what those two numbers demand. Three essential skills, one picture: slope, distance, midpoint Drag either point, A or B . Slope tells you how steep the segment is; distance and midpoint come straight from the same two coordinates — no separate diagram needed once you can read the plane. Parallel lines share a slope; perpendicular lines have opposite reciprocal slopes — both readable straight off this same picture. Reading a circle straight off its equation Drag the center point or crank the radius slider. The equation (x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2 always names the center (h,k) and radius r directly — no algebra required once you recognize the pattern. (x+2)^2+(y-3)^2=25 — the same circle you just dragged, written the way it'll appear on the test.
