A step-by-step walkthrough of graphing a line with the slope-intercept method. Graph the line y = 2x - 3 using the slope-intercept method: plot the y -intercept, then step off by the slope to find a second point, and draw the line through them. Here is the line y = 2x - 3 with the points we found. It crosses the y -axis at -3 and rises 2 for every 1 to the right. Nice work — you graphed a linear equation straight from slope-intercept form, no table of values needed. Start with b : the y -intercept gives the first point (0, b) — here (0, -3) . Step with m : read the slope as ; means rise 2 , run 1 to the next point (1, -1) . Connect two points: two points fix a unique line — extend it through (0,-3) and (1,-1) to finish. Slope-intercept graphing is one of the fastest ways to sketch any line written as y = mx + b .
