See how we can describe changing real-world situations using the power of variables. Why does math use so many letters? Algebra can look like a wall of symbols — but every one of those letters is just a stand-in for a real quantity that can change. Once you can read the symbols, a long sentence about the real world collapses into one short, exact line. First watch that happen, then drive the same idea yourself. Imagine a food truck that sells tacos. We can describe its money in plain words: "Total Revenue is the Tacos Sold times the Price per taco." That works, but it's long. Press play and watch the sentence compress into symbols — each quantity dropping into a single letter. One short line now says the whole sentence — that compression is what algebra buys you. If the truck always sold exactly 20 tacos at 4.00 , the math would never change: 20 4 = 80 dollars, every single day. But the real world isn't that predictable. Keep the price fixed at 4.00 and drag the slider — the number of tacos sold is now a variable , a quantity that can change, and the revenue follows it. The revenue isn't a fixed number anymore — it's whatever the variable makes it. Now let's change the price too In the real world, both sales and prices can change — so now you control two variables. The picture shows revenue as an area : tacos sold makes the rectangle wider, price makes it taller, and the area inside is the money.
