Class Score Analysis
Algebra 2 · Axiom Academy
One set of exam scores holds several different stories — where the class centered, and how far it really spread out. Period 3 just took a 24-student Algebra 2 exam — scores from 52 to 98 . The teacher asks: how did the class do? Bring the scores in one at a time and watch the class average move as the results come in. Drag this one student's score up or down and watch mean and median react differently. Same-ish center, very different spread Switch classes and compare — a similar average, but very different consistency. Center and spread are BOTH the story: mean , median , and mode locate the middle, but range , the five-number summary , and standard deviation show how tightly the class actually clustered around it — and because a class's own scores ARE the whole group, not a sample, that spread is a population , dividing by N .
