REAL WORLD Private Identity Verification How zero-knowledge proofs let you prove who you are without revealing everything about yourself The Problem: Too Much Information You're at a bar, and the bouncer asks to see your ID. You hand over your driver's license. To verify you're over 21, they now see: The question was simple: "Are you 21 or older?" But you just revealed your full name, exact birthdate, home address, and more. That's far more information than necessary, and it creates privacy and security risks. Two Approaches to Verification You reveal: Full ID with all fields They see: Name, address, DOB, license # Risk: Data can be copied, stored, leaked Risk: No personal data to steal This is called "selective disclosure" - proving specific claims without revealing the underlying data. Scenario: You need to prove you're over 18 to sign up for a service. Your actual credentials (kept private): Choose your verification method: Zero-knowledge proofs use advanced cryptography to create mathematical proofs that a statement is true without revealing why it's true.
