Geometry on the GRE — What's Tested One-sixth of Quant, zero proofs required — just pattern recognition, and one habit that saves you from a very common trap. 15–20% of Quant, and no theorem-proving required Geometry makes up roughly 15–20% of the GRE Quantitative Reasoning section. You will not be asked to write a two-column proof. You need to recognize a handful of shapes and relationships, then apply them quickly — angles, triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, 3D solids, and coordinate geometry, all reused across the test in different disguises. But there's one habit the GRE demands that geometry class never did: watch the animation below. The triangle's drawn shape keeps changing — flattening, stretching, skewing — while the labeled angles never move from 30°, 60°, and 90°. That gap between what you see and what's actually true is exactly what GRE figures do to you. The numbers never change. Only the artist's rendering does — which is exactly the GRE's point. Six topic areas, reused constantly Every GRE geometry question draws from one of these six areas — often combining two or three in a single problem. None of them require anything beyond what you'll cover in this unit.
