GRE Math Vocabulary — Terms You Must Know

The exact terms you must know cold — misreading "consecutive," "sum," or "product" solves the wrong problem entirely. 1. Every Integer Is Built From Primes An integer is a whole number with no fractional part. A factor (or divisor) divides evenly into it. A prime is a number whose only factors are 1 and itself. Watch 60 split apart into its prime factors, one division at a time — the pieces you're left with are its prime factorization , and their product rebuilds the original number. 2. Consecutive, Even/Odd, and Multiples — Read the Line Consecutive integers follow one another with no gaps: 5, 6, 7, 8 . Split the integers by even (divisible by 2) versus odd (not divisible by 2), and watch a multiple of 5 — a number reached by multiplying 5 by an integer — light up every fifth step.
