Converting Linear Programs to Standard Form Linear programs can take various forms with different objective directions and constraint types: Standard form requires a maximization objective. We convert minimization by negating the objective function: 3 Converting Inequalities to Equalities Standard form requires equality constraints. We add slack variables to convert ≤ constraints: For ≥ constraints, we subtract surplus variables and may need artificial variables: Putting it all together, the standard form of a linear program is:
