Grid City is laid out like a coordinate plane. Discover why pinning down a single spot always takes two numbers — in a fixed order. How do you say exactly where something is? Every street corner in Grid City sits where one across-street meets one up-street. Tell a friend "go to column 3" and they're still lost — a whole row of corners fits that. Watch how a second number turns a vague direction into one exact corner. Watch the lines move in. The vertical line slides across to x = 3 — that picks a whole column, not one spot. Then the horizontal line slides up to y = 2 , and where the two cross is a single corner: the Park, at (3, 2) . Two numbers, written in order as (x, y), name one — and only one — corner. That pair is the point's coordinates. Try to find one corner with a single number Drag the slider to choose an across-value x. The matching column lights up across the whole map. No matter which value you pick, a full stack of corners fits it — so one number alone can never point to a single place. Five corners share every x — the column never narrows to one. It takes a second number, y, to break the tie. Does the order of the two numbers matter? Drag the point anywhere on the map. The faded marker shows what you'd land on if you swapped the two numbers — reading the pair as (y, x) instead.
