SAT-Style: Trig Ratio Applications SOH-CAH-TOA in the situations the SAT actually asks about Every right-triangle trig question reduces to picking the right ratio. Label the sides relative to the angle you're given — opposite , adjacent , hypotenuse — and choose: Example 1 — Find a Side from an Angle Example 2 — A Ladder Against a Wall Example 3 — From Two Sides to Every Ratio Mark the angle, label opp / adj / hyp, then match to SOH-CAH-TOA. When you already have two sides, the Pythagorean theorem hands you the third and every ratio falls out.
