Finding Relationships in Data

INTRO Finding Relationships in Data Discover how variables interact and what their patterns reveal. Let's explore how two variables can be related. Click anywhere in the grid below to add data points! Different patterns reveal different relationships. Drag each scatter pattern to match its relationship type! No clear pattern between x and y Relationships can be strong or weak. Adjust the "scatter" slider to see how relationship strength changes! Let's see some real examples! Click each dataset to explore different relationships in real data. Scatterplots Visualize Relationships Scatterplots plot pairs of data points, allowing us to see patterns visually. They're the first step in understanding how variables interact. Positive: variables increase together. Negative: one increases as the other decreases. None: no predictable pattern. Relationships vary in strength. Strong relationships have points close to a pattern, while weak relationships show more scatter. This is measured by correlation. From Exploration to Prediction Understanding relationships allows us to make predictions. This leads to powerful tools like regression analysis, where we fit mathematical models to data!
