Understanding symmetric, skewed, and modal patterns in data A symmetric distribution has a mirror-image shape, where the left and right sides are approximately equal. The mean and median are located at the center and are approximately equal. 2. Skewed Left (Negatively Skewed) A left-skewed distribution has a long tail extending to the left. Most data values cluster on the right side, with a few extreme low values pulling the mean to the left of the median. 3. Skewed Right (Positively Skewed) A right-skewed distribution has a long tail extending to the right. Most data values cluster on the left side, with a few extreme high values pulling the mean to the right of the median. 4. Modal Patterns: Unimodal and Bimodal The number of peaks (modes) in a distribution reveals important patterns. Unimodal distributions have one peak, while bimodal distributions have two distinct peaks, often indicating two different groups in the data. A uniform distribution has approximately equal frequencies across all values. Every outcome is equally likely, creating a flat, rectangular shape with no distinct peak. 6.
