Discover a natural way to locate objects using distance and angle instead of x and y coordinates! Radar operators locate objects by measuring two things: how far away the object is and what direction it's in. Move the sliders to explore! Which system makes more sense? Both coordinates change constantly! Distance stays constant! Only angle changes! Real radar systems track many objects simultaneously. Click on any object to see its polar coordinates! You've been using polar coordinates : describing positions with (distance, angle) instead of (x, y). This isn't just for radar – it's fundamental to understanding circles, rotation, and periodic motion. Polar coordinates are used everywhere: GPS navigation, satellite tracking, astronomy, robotics, physics, and engineering. Anytime something rotates or moves in a circle, polar coordinates make the math simpler. Trigonometry is the bridge between polar and Cartesian coordinates. The sine and cosine functions let us convert between "distance and angle" and "x and y." This connection is at the heart of all trigonometry!
