Understanding amplitude, period, and frequency in trigonometric functions 1. Amplitude: Maximum Displacement The amplitude tells us how "tall" the wave is. A larger amplitude means the wave oscillates further from the center line, while a smaller amplitude means it stays closer to the center. 2. Period: Length of One Complete Cycle The period tells us how "wide" one wave cycle is. After traveling one period along the x-axis, the wave returns to its starting position and begins to repeat. 3. The B Parameter: Controlling the Period The value of B determines how quickly the wave oscillates. A larger B creates more cycles in the same space (shorter period), while a smaller B stretches the wave out (longer period). While period measures how long a cycle takes, frequency measures how many cycles occur in a given distance. They are inversely related: as period increases, frequency decreases, and vice versa.
