INTRO Introduction to Integration Applications From Accumulation to Area: Why Integration Matters You've learned how to compute integrals. But what are they actually for ? Integration is one of calculus's most powerful tools because it turns abstract rates of change into concrete, measurable quantities. Integration answers questions that derivatives alone cannot. Where derivatives measure instantaneous rates, integrals measure total accumulation . In this unit, you'll learn to: Calculate areas between curves Interpret net change and average values Connect integrals to real-world contexts Imagine a tank filling with water. The rate of flow is given by the function liters per minute. The integral tells you the total volume of water that flowed in from minute 0 to minute 5.
