Looking Ahead

Game Theory · Axiom Academy

Discover why the best strategic decisions start at the end. You're playing a simple game. Choose a path, but choose carefully! You can go LEFT or RIGHT . What do you choose? Now let's play the same game, but this time you can see what happens after each choice. Now which path would you choose? Step 3: Thinking Like a Chess Player Great chess players don't just think about their next move - they look several moves ahead. Click to see how thinking ahead changes the game Game theorists visualize sequential decisions as a "game tree". Let's explore one! The Scenario: You move first (Blue), then your opponent responds (Red). Each branch shows the final payoff for you. Which should you choose: A or B? Anticipate what will happen after each possible move. Visualize the entire game tree, thinking through how your opponent will respond to each of your choices. Start from the end of the game and work backwards. At each decision point, figure out what a rational player would choose, then use that to determine your optimal move now. The ability to think ahead transforms guessing into strategy. Whether in chess, business negotiations, or competitive markets, strategic foresight gives you a decisive advantage.
