Strategy 1: Master the Foundation (1-10) The first ten perfect squares are the foundation. Most people already know many of these, but let's make sure they're automatic. 1-5: Usually already automatic from basic multiplication 6² = 36: Think "six and thirty-six" - both have 'x' in them 7² = 49: Seven is "lucky" and 49 has 7 as a factor (7×7) 8² = 64: Powers of 2: 8=2³, 64=2⁶ (double the exponent) 9² = 81: Nine reversed is eighty-one's first digit 10² = 100: One hundred percent automatic! 3.
