Quick Shopping Totals
Mental Math · Axiom Academy
Round it, pair it, and hand back the pennies — and you'll know where your cart stands long before the register does. You're halfway down the aisle with a 30 budget, no calculator in your hand, and a cart that keeps filling up — can you tell where you stand? Rounding buys you one friendly running number instead of four messy prices to juggle. Pick a rounding rule, ring the cart up, and watch your running estimate chase the real total — then add the rounded column the easy way: whole dollars first, loose cents after. Some prices are made for each other. When two prices' cents add up to 100, the pair lands on a whole dollar and there's nothing left to round. Three perfect pairs are hiding in this cart — click two prices at a time and find them. Round every price UP to the next whole dollar and the adding gets easy — you just end up a little high. Keep track of what you rounded away, hand it back at the end, and the easy estimate turns into the exact total. One more thing — does it still fit? Here's the moment the whole skill is for. Your cart from Beat 1 is already close to the limit and something catches your eye. Set what it costs, and watch what it does to the budget — the honest total and the estimate you'd carry in your head, side by side.
