Adaptive Testing & Module 2 Difficulty Understanding how your performance shapes the test Adaptive testing is a game-changing feature of the Digital SAT. Unlike the paper SAT where everyone saw the same questions, the Digital SAT changes difficulty based on your performance in real-time. The College Board implemented adaptive testing because it's more efficient and fair. Here's why: It reduces ceiling effects—strong students still see challenging questions It reduces floor effects—weaker students don't waste time on impossible problems It's more precise—your score reflects your true ability level It's efficient—you're always challenged at the right level "If Module 2 is harder, I must have done poorly on Module 1." WRONG! Seeing harder questions on Module 2 means you're performing WELL. If you see easier questions on Module 2, that suggests your Module 1 performance needs improvement. Module 2's difficulty is dynamically determined by your Module 1 performance. Let's see exactly how this works. College Board doesn't reveal the exact formula, but here's the general pattern: Let's look at how different combinations of Module 1 and Module 2 performance translate to final SAT scores. These are approximate conversions. The exact score-to-raw-score conversion can vary slightly between test dates. College Board publishes the exact conversion after each test.
