Calculator Strategy: When & How Master the Desmos calculator on the Digital SAT The Desmos Calculator on the Digital SAT Unlike the paper SAT where the No Calculator section was separate, the Digital SAT provides the Desmos graphing calculator for ALL questions. But here's the critical insight: having a calculator doesn't mean you should use it on every problem. The Digital SAT calculator availability creates a new strategic consideration: you must decide when using a calculator is efficient vs. when it wastes time. Desmos is a free, online graphing calculator built into the Digital SAT. It can: Perform statistical calculations Every SAT Math problem falls into one of three calculator categories. Learning to categorize questions is your first strategic skill. Speed: On a simple problem like "2 + 3 = ?", using the calculator is slower than mental math. Errors: Typos in the calculator input can lead to wrong answers. Mental math avoids this. Conceptual Understanding: Some problems test whether you understand a concept, not whether you can calculate. Using a calculator masks weak understanding. Pacing: You have about 95 seconds per question on average. Inefficient calculator use steals time from other questions.
