Reading Box Plots
Statistics · Axiom Academy
Learn to interpret box plots and extract key statistical values Excellent work! You've mastered reading box plots. Here's what we learned: The Five-Number Summary: A box plot displays the minimum, Q1 (25th percentile), median (Q2), Q3 (75th percentile), and maximum values of a dataset. The Interquartile Range (IQR): The IQR = Q3 - Q1 represents the middle 50% of the data and measures the spread of the central values. Outlier Detection: Values below Q1 - 1.5(IQR) or above Q3 + 1.5(IQR) are considered potential outliers. Box Plot Comparisons: When comparing multiple box plots side by side, you can quickly compare medians, spreads, and overall distributions across different groups. Box plots are powerful tools for visualizing distributions and identifying outliers. Practice reading them to build your statistical literacy!
