EXAMPLE Fraction Multiplication Master the mental math technique for multiplying fractions Excellent work! You've mastered fraction multiplication. Here's what we learned: Multiply Straight Across: To multiply fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. No need to find common denominators like in addition! Simplify at the End: After multiplying, always check if you can simplify the result by finding the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator. Mental Math Trick: Look for opportunities to simplify before multiplying. If a numerator and denominator share common factors, cancel them first to make calculations easier. Cross-Cancellation: You can also cancel factors diagonally between any numerator and any denominator before multiplying, which makes mental math much faster. With practice, you'll be able to multiply and simplify fractions mentally in just seconds. Try applying this technique to more complex fraction problems!
